On Monday GoodJob   brought in Dr. Oz to speak to the employees about living our best life.
…a lunch meeting with Dr. Oz?!  V. Cool.
He was speaking in our California office, so the peeps here in Chicago dialed into the video conference to get the famous doc’s tips  on wellness.  He gave an incredibly engaging speech talking about how his history as a cardiac surgeon is what inspired him to get involved with HEALTH instead of just HEALING.  Heart disease takes many years to develop and  by the time he was seeing patients- they had been making decades of poor choices that got them to his operating room.  He needed to get involved sooner. He wanted to help PREVENT these diseases. Dr. Oz said the single greatest predictor of heart health was not what number you see on the scale, but the number of inches around your waist.  Abdominal fat is a risk factor for metabolic syndrome, which dramatically increases the risk of heart disease.  Stomach fat is bad fat.  You waist measurement should never exceed half you height  [For Example….I am about feet, or 60 inches tall, so my waist must remain under 30 inches.  Pregnancy not withstanding.] When asked about a magic pill, Dr. Oz praised the power of baby aspirin.  Baby Aspirin are effective in reducing heart disease, cancer….and might even help minimize the appearance of wrinkles.  He said these low-dose aspirin act as both blood thinners and powerful anti-inflammatory drugs and suggested you take two a day.  [I ran out that night and picked up a bottle of 1,000 pills for Simon!] Finally Dr. Oz gave us 5 Rules to Live By. He asked that we share these 5 rules of health with those we love.  So here it is…. Dr. Oz’s 5 Rules for Health
Get your blood pressure to 115/75.
Do not smoke cigarettes.  Ever.  & Avoid toxins while you are at it.
You need to get 30 minutes of exercise every single day.
Find a healthy diet that is easy-to-love.
Control your Stress.
Sounds easy enough, right? Three Cheers for a healthy heart & healthy life.

Catch my boyfriend’s segment on Good Morning America about Core Fusion, the exercise classes that he teaches. He’s the one in black in the back row.

If you’re in LA, NY, or most other major cities, check out Exhale Spas (http://www.exhalespa.com) for their mind/body classes. These will kick your butt, but I have first hand proof that they work (like I said, the one in the black in the back row - proof).

hi jesse!!

ps-imadethis:

P.S.- NEVER SAY NEVER TO NEON!  I love infusing bright and funky highlighter shades into my world.  My good friend, the uber talented Ben Watts, is known for his always electric and punchy photos.  I’m always inspired by his fashion infused Art and Photography. Chances are you have seen Watt’s work gracing International fashion magazines and billboards. His 2nd and most recent book that came out this year, Lickshot, is dope- so check it! Also, he contributed some fab shots to my new Book, so get excited!
To make this fun, eye-catching, crazy-cool heels- hit up your local sporting goods store for reflective running bands.  I picked up a thick and thin style at Eastern Mountain Sports and Modell’s.  Use the already existing velcro (trim down if necessary) and wrap around your heels.  It’s a quick and easy way to rev-up and re-vamp your stems!

Client: “We want every single upper case letter removed from the site and replaced with all lower case.”

Me: “Okay, that’s a lot of work. There are dozens, probably hundreds of instances of upper case letters on the site. Unfortunately, we’ll have to bill you for this.”

Client: “That’s fine.”

My Favorite Alliteration - Burgers and Beer by the Beach! - Simmzy’s Manhattan Beach, CA
Every time I head to the south bay I always stop into Simmzy’s (sometimes more than once) to try a new blonde beer and sink my chops into one of their juicy burgers.
The menu isn’t big, but everything on it, including the salads, are way above average for a bar.
The open-air pub is the size of my apartment so you should expect to wait for a seat.  But it’s the beach, you don’t have a worry in the world.  Grab a pint, order some shoestring fries, and take a load off.
Follow them on twitter @Simmzys if you’re a SoCal local.

true story. place is delish.
and the best place to start an impromptu midweek afternoon pubcrawl.
